Before the new owners took over and began extensive renovations, this was The Dufferin Hotel. The Dufferin had a long history as a seedy gay bar, where young men were paid poorly to strip on the stage and gave lap dances. Hustlers were plentiful, and the regulars went out back to smoke a joint.
