 interesting place, bridge

Former known as the Roermondsplein Bridge (into use in 1977). Renamed in 2007 after the South African freedom fighter, ANC chairman, first black SA president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela.

The names on the bridge are part of the artwork ‘The Bridges of Arnhem’ (although there is just one bridge involved). In neon the following names are put in by the Swiss artist Rémy Zaugg in 1993 (reading from the left to the right): ‘houses, wind, the current, far away, the utopia, Indonesia, boats, the sea, blue sky’.
