Bullingdon Community Prison operates as an adult male Cat C training prison with a Cat B local function. Opened in 1992 it is a ‘new gallery' design prison with its four main houseblocks divided into three galleried units. A fifth houseblock was added in 1998 which is a two galleried unit.

Accommodation: There are four original houseblocks A-D, a fifth houseblock E was added in 1998. Accommodation comprises of single and double cells.

Operational capacity: 963 as of 31st January 2006.

Reception criteria: Bullingdon's Courts catchment area is: Crown Courts: Oxford, Reading. Magistrates Courts: Oxford, Reading, Slough, Newbury, Banbury, Witney, Bicester, Didcot, Bracknell, Wantage.

These are not the only courts, Bullingdon do take from other courts within the Thames Valley and surrounding areas.

Regime: Bullingdon operates a three tier system of regime (Basic, Standard and Enhanced) as part of an Incentives and Earned Privileges programme. The prison has a range of Work, Education and Training opportunities delivering key and basic skills and opportunities for a wide variety of vocational qualifications. There is a range of Offending Behaviour programmes including RAPT, SOTP, ETS and SDP. An Offender Management Unit was set up in 2005 to manage Resettlement work for the seven pathways of the national plans of reducing re-offending.
