The Mount Prison opened in 1987 as a young offenders institution.

It was designed as a Category C Training prison built on the site of a former RAF station on the outskirts of Bovingdon village, Hertfordshire, UK.

Operational capacity: 720 as of 30th January 2007

Regime: The regime includes full/part-time education, workshops, training courses, farms and gardens, and a works department. Various types of offending behaviour groups are available e.g. drug group (suppliers), drug group (users), anger management, and alcohol offending. Other special features include: listener groups (community based project to keep juveniles out of prison), a job skills course, and prisoner driven drug free meetings.
