HMP Nottingham (Nottingham)

HMP Nottingham opened in 1890 or 1891 as a city gaol but was rebuilt in 1912 and until 1997 served as a closed training establishment for men. In 1997 it was redesignated a category B local prison and now serves the courts of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.
Head Prison Officer (Governor) is, as of spring 2008, Peter Wright and Head Chaplin is Louise Grosberg.
Operational capacity: 550 inmates (as of 29 October 2006)
Turnover of prison population is, 70 per cent of inmates staying less than a month. About 20 per cent of the population are from a "minority ethnic group."
Between 100 and 200 inmates receive voctional training, educational services being contracted to a college of further education.
Reception criteria: Normal reception arrangements for a local prison. HMP Nottingham accepts prisoners direct from courts within its catchment area.
