Former Victorian seaside resort, with two piers. Currently experiencing boom in development of housing and services. Controversial density of substance abuse rehabilitation centres. Noted for its annual kite, motorbike and helicopter festivals.

The tidal rise and fall is among the largest in the world, although not as great as the Bay of Fundy and Ungava Bay in Canada. In the Severn Estuary and Bristol Channel it can be as great as 15 m (49 ft), and this tidal movement contributes to the deposition of natural mud in bays such as Weston

Birthplace of Ritchie Blackmore, the great guitarist and co-founder of Deep Purple and Rainbow.
