7/2/44 to 12/4/45, 34th, 43rd, 309th and 310th Troop Carrier Squadrons of the 315th Troop Carrier Group. 5/43, the first C-47 aircraft arrived from North Africa with more following from the 60th TCG and 62nd TCG. 6/6/44, The group took US paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division to Normandy during the invasion and then flew in ammunition and supplies.

9/44, During Operation 'Market' (Garden) the 315th TCG again took paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division along with Polish and British paratroopers into the Drop Zones in Holland. 3/45, The 315th TCG took British Paratroops from Boreham during Operation 'Varsity' and the Group then moved to France only returning 5/45 for training.

7/45 to /47, RAF No. 253 Maintenance Unit here for storage and disposal of war surplus vehicles, airfield then closed.

12/8/60, An RAF 7 Sqn Vickers Valiant crashed on the airfield shortly after take off from Wittering.
