CGAS Savannah operates as part of the US Coast Guard's 7th District, Sector Charleston and is based here at Hunter Army Airfield. Commissioned in 1963, Air Station Savannah has provided search and rescue coverage for 450 miles of shoreline from the northern border of South Carolina to Melbourne, Florida for over 45 years, averaging more than 250 SAR cases a year. Other missions include maritime law enforcement, drug interdiction, aids to navigation, marine safety and environmental protection.
