With the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education and the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution, the university was established in 1986.

The chief objective of this university is to implement special national research projects and to educate the experts and personnel required for the industrial and research centers in the country. In 1999, with the objective of expanding research-oriented master and Ph.D. programs, the already-existing departments and research centers with similar functions were merged together and at present the university consists of the following faculties:

Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering;
4.

Faculty of Information, Communications and Security Technologies;
5.

Faculty of Management and Industrial Engineering;
6.

Faculty of Marine Science and Engineering;
7.

Faculty of Materials and Manufacturing Technologies.

Having adequate scientific and technological capacities and capabilities, the university is presently active in the following fields:

Providing scientific support for industrial organizations through conducting research projects (applied and fundamental) in line with the clients’ requirements;

Developing qualified human resources through running special research-oriented master and Ph.D. programs;
*

Developing human resources of industrial organizations qualitatively by implementing undergraduate, and special technology-oriented short training programs;
*

Transferring research achievements to the related industries;
*

Contributing to standardization of industrial products by making use of accredited laboratories;
*

Helping industrial organizations with technology attainment and transfer;
*

Advancing level of science and technology transfer in order to help industrial organizations gain independence;
*

Compiling the research achievements and results (from both the university and industries) and making them into scientific references through scientific documentation;
*

Holding national and international conferences on science and technology;
*

Establishing academic societies in order to facilitate the realization of an effective interaction between researchers and industries;
*

Directing the academic and research affairs of industrial organizations;
*

Devising efficient mechanisms for determining industries’ present and future technological needs;
*

Facilitating researchers’ access to their required scientific information through establishing efficient information services networks;
*

Contributing to the establishment and management of industry-affiliated research centers;
*

Creating and directing academic interactions to make use of the educational and research capacities both within and outside the country in order to help the university and industries meet their objectives;
*

Creating suitable mechanisms and environment in order to attract and benefit from the talented academics.
