Castle Sant Joan (Blanes)

Spain / Girona / Blanes
 tower, castle

It was ordered to be built by Grau de Cabrera in the middle of the 13th century. Although the tower is from the time of Charles I, there is no doubt that a fortification already existed there in earlier times. The watch tower is from the 16th century, since the danger from the corsairs and Barbary pirates of the Mediterranean required a higher promontory to dominate the panorama better and to give warning of the approach of any possible enemies. Today it is the unmistakable silhouette of our town and a fine vantage point for admiring the view of Blanes and part of the Costa Brava.
