Tour du Jacquemart (Avignon)

France / Provence-Alpes-Cote-dAzur / Avignon

The tower is the last vestige of the forteenth-century livrée (Cardinal’s palace) that became the City Hall in 1447, and is now surrounded by nineteenth-century buildings. This maneuver was criticized by Prosper Mérimée : « The tower is to be preserved like the partridged in Pithiviers, they are put into pâté with their heads sticking out ». www.avignon.fr/en/visites/visite2en.php
