Built between 1896 and 1904, this water crib serves to protect the underwater tunnel through which fresh water is drawn to the Kirtland Pumping Station, and provided to the city of Cleveland. It was also the source of 6 tunnel disasters involving the deaths of 58 men. Garret A. Morgan, rescued 31 men during one of the disasters by using a respiratory protective hood in invented.
