Nek Chand Rock Garden (Chandigarh)

This garden is an amazing place, built out of the rubble from the construction of the villages that were demolished to create the site for Courbusier's vision for "Chandigarh: The City Beautiful" The creator of "Rock Garden" is Padama Shri (Sir) Nek Chand, who started as a humble road inspector, and was thankfully has been able to realize his vision that started when he began hauling in his favorite river rocks to create a secret garden. The garden has since grown to over 30 acres of folk-art sculptures, twisting pathways, promenades, waterfalls and amphitheaters built entirely from recycled materials. It is a truly magical place it is worth visiting, and most certainly worth protecting and conserving.
