Second World War 1939-1945, industrial district

The seven acre parcel was formerly the site of the Chico Army Airfield Civilian War Housing Project. On 31 March 1944, the War Department acquired 10.97 acres from B. Verne-Thomasson. The site was called Civilian War Housing Project, Chico Basic Flying School, Butte County, California. The site was used by the 9th Service Command's Army Air Force Western Flying Training Center. Improvements to the site included eleven buildings, twelve above-ground heating oil tanks, roads, and utilities. The lease terminated in August 1958. There is no information regarding restoration of the site.
