Second World War 1939-1945, concentration camp
On May 1st, 1941, in the said place " Struthof ", the Nazis open a concentration camp, the KL-Natzweiler. The central camp, the only concentration camp on the French territory, is situated in what was then annexed Alsace. Of a surface of 4,5 ha, it consists 15 wooden blocks: 6 dormitories, 5 for the infirmary, 1 for the sick of the typhoid, 1 office, 1 cooking, 1 of about forty and 2 hard blocks: 1 cellular block and 1 crematorium block for a normal staff of the camp of ± 2 000 transported convicts. Workplace for the benefit of the industry of Nazi war, the camp also shelters the medical experiments of the Nazi professors of the University of Reich of Strasbourg.
