The Sacred Cenote (or Cenote of Sacrifice) is a sinkhole pond at the Mayan site of Chichen Itza. It is accessed by a 900 foot sacbe (paved corridor) leading from the Great Plaza. The Sacred Cenote was used for human sacrifices to the gods in periods of drought.
