Los Angeles Defense Area Site LA-88-L&A

USA / California / Santa Clarita /
Cold War 1947-1991, nikemissile, closed / former military, United States Army, missile launch facility

Former launch and admin site of LA-88. The IFC site is located on Oat Mountain.

The IFC is now the site of numerous Los Angeles Country radio relay antennas and a PACTEL relay tower. The L&A site is under the control of the State of California and recently (1993) was the location of a California Conservation Corps (CCC) camp. Most of the Nike structures remain in good condition at both the IFC and Launch area sites. The Administration buildings have been removed.

  • In the mid 1960's our Cub Scout Pack did a tour of the Admin area. Don't know how it was authorized, but it was. Ironic that in the late 1970's my first unit after graduating from MP school was a Nike Herc site in Germany.
