Founded 1812, building constructed 1859. Designed by English architect William Percival, the First Baptist Church is variant of the Gothic Revival style. The symmetrical brick structure is stuccoed and scored to give the appearance of stone. The church is one of four ecclesiastical anchors of Union (Capitol) Square.
