In 1990 it was sold to New World Media who would enter a new programming agreement in 1994, changing the channel to an affiliate of the Fox Network. In 1996, New World Media was purchased by 20th Century Fox, making the channel a Fox Owned and Operated station. In 2007, Fox sold WJW and 20 other stations to Local TV LLC. Local TV would be purchased by Tribune Broadcasting in 2013. Sinclair would attempt a purchase of Tribune in 2017 which would sell WJW back to Fox, but after the deal fell through, Tribune would be purchased by Nextstar Media in 2019. WBNX 55 originally began in 1981 as the planned WCOT TV which would air mostly religious programming. It went on the air by 1985 as a religious independent channel carrying family friendly programming. It picked up the rights to the Fox Kids block in 1995 and by 1997 picked up the affiliation with the WB Television Network. In 2006 it became the affiliate of the new CW Television Network. The channel lost the CW affiliation to WUAB in July 2018 In 2024 the station would be acquired by Nextstar Media Group, moving the operations to Cleveland, and making the station Owned-and-Operated by The CW. Today the channel carries The CW on 55.1, Buzzr on 55.2, Movies! TV on 55.3, Heroes & Icons on 55.4, Start TV on 55.5, and Binge TV on 55.6.
