Dune Overlook and Climb

USA / Michigan / Empire /
 beach, dunes, interesting place

The dunes approach Lake Michigan here and as part of the Scenic Drive there is an overlook for spectacular views. On your way to the overlook, veer to the left and you can run down a 300ft (vertical component) dune all the way to the beach. You'll be down in minutes but it may take significant time to climb back up. Sand moves backward under your feet with every step. If you're in great shape you can do it in under 20 minutes...poor shape and you may need a helicopter. If you're not into the adventure, the overlook will offer plenty of good times as you watch people challenge themselves.
