This village is located in Punjab, Pakistan. It was established by a Sekhon family, who migrated to Punjab, India in 1947. Original settler was a soldier who was alloted land in this area for his services to the British in Burma. Most of this Sekhon family is now settled at Patti in district Amritsar, Punjab, India. Curiously, Sekhons have always spelled the village name as Greenkot, not Grinkot. They claim that it was named after an Englishman named Green. But this difference could be attributed to a lack of transliteration between Punjabi and English.

Sardar Hardeep Singh Greenkotia belonged to this village.
