Town and county in Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous prefecture of Sichuan province. In 1934 the Communist Army had their most trying test for their participants. They had to go through a bottomless swamp area. After the ordeal the place was named Hongyuan, which means "Red Plains". The Bai He (Kar-chu) flows nearby. The river is a tributary to the Yellow river.
