The unique natural and climatic conditions made possible the start of organized tourism in Ivanjica already in 1938. A large tourist potential of this area was unfairly underprivileged until 1978, when, with the initiative of the Serbian institute for hematology, a mechanism for specialized rehabilitation of the hematology patients was created. Long-term research on the influence of the environment on human health led to the appointment of Ivanjica as a first air health resort in this country by a provision of the Serbian government on 25 January 2000.
