Cattle grids in the road and a fence prevent wild horses from escaping south into the developed areas. In the 1990's wild horses were brought down into the Corolla area as a tourist attraction. After several years and several auto accidents and numerous flower gardens being eaten the horses were deported back to the north part of the island.
