This is an early fieldstone and frame barn built in 1804 for James Hunter Jr. by Samuel Morgan for $180 It was converted to a residence and studio in the early 1900's by and for the late artist Thornton Oakley. The original plot of 141 acres was purchased in a sheriff’s sale from Caleb Evens by James Hunter (and ancestor of the artist's wife) in 1752. The plot was originally bounded by S. Spring Mill road on the north, Mill road on the west, Ithan Ave on the south and near Villanova Rd on the west.
