Though today referred to as simply the "Academic Building" this structure began life as two separate entities. The southernmost section began life as Ivy Hall, completed in 1831. The northernmost section, closest to downtown Athens, was completed in 1862, and housed the university's library for many years. In 1905 the two buildings were connected by adding a large portico across the front, and adding a section with additional rooms across the back. Currently houses several administrative offices of UGA.
