Originally built for Dr. and Mrs. Roy Van Wart c. 1931 by architect Ray J. Kieffer in the French Norman style. Dr. Van Wart was a highly skilled neuropathologist from Canada and then New Orleans who retired in 1929 to the LA area building this 14-room manor.

The former Los Angeles Times executive great-grandson of Harrison Gray Otis, founder of the Los Angeles Times lived here until his death on June 15, 2008.
In the 1960's Franklin Otis Booth invested in Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. His 1.4% stake in the company makes Booth to one of the largest investors and billionaire.
Franklin Otis Booth died June 15, 2008 from complications of ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
His wife Lynn still lives here.
