This building was a Roman basilica which was used as a throne room by Constintine the Great, when Trier was one of the capitals of the Roman Empire.

Today, it is the main Lutheran church in otherwise Catholic Trier.

The so-called Basilika, Constantine's throne room, is the largest surviving single-room structure from Roman times. The Romans wanted the architecture to express the magnificence and might of the emperor.

Unbelievable size: 27 m (90 ft) wide, 33 m (108 ft) high, and 67 m (220 ft) long - with an adjoining hall outside even 75 m (250 ft). www.trier-info.de
