Lo Manthang walled city

Nepal / Kaski / Pokhara /

Capital of the ancient Kingdom of Mustang, which now survives as the Kingdom of Lo in Upper (northern) Mustang.
The current king (raja or gyelpo) is Jigme Palbar Bista (b. 1930), a part of the historic monarchy (photo No. 3 = king's palace). The present Raja, Jigme Palbar Bista, is the 25th in Mustang's long lineage of hereditary kings. He is not an absolute monarch, a council of his Loba subjects and the Khenpo, their religious leader are involved in all public matters.
