  • A 35-year-old assistant CRPF commandant, chanchal parwana of ggm science college 99 batch was arrested for raping a woman whom he had promised to marry. The case has come to light from the Mehrauli area of South Delhi. The arrest has come three months after the victim registered the complaint as the accused person was out of India on UN peacekeeping mission. According to a police officer, the CRPF assistant commandant identified as Chanchal Parwana who hails from jammu was registered following an FIR registered at the Mehrauli police station. The assistant commandant had met the girl through a social networking site. The FIR was lodged in December 2011, but Parwana could not be arrested since he had gone to Syria on a UN peacekeeping mission, said a senior police officer. “He came to India on January 13 after the completion of his term at the peacekeeping mission. The victim informed us of his arrival and we arrested him. He has been released on bail,” he added. Parwana, the officer said, joined CRPF in 2008 and was posted in Manesar when he came in contact with the victim through a social networking site. The victim in her complaint told police that Parwana, who actually hails from Jammu, betrayed her by posing as Rudra Pratap Singh, a Major in the Indian Army. He had also told her that he hailed from Jalandhar in Punjab and his father was a college principal. The victim lived in a rented accommodation in Chattarpur and earned her livelihood by giving private tuitions in her locality. According to a senior officer, “Chanchal had first met the victim in July 2011 when he had introduced himself as a Major in the Army named Rudra Pratap Singh. They both became friendly and got physically involved with each other. This is when Chanchal Parwana promised that he would marry the victim. However, he did not keep his promise and went to the UN peacekeeping mission. “Later, when he went to UN, he stopped receiving her calls and started ignoring her. This is when the woman discovered that Chanchal parwana was already married and had two children.”
