  • 'Aizawl' is the headquarter of Mizoram (Mi + man, jo =hill, Rhowam, Rawam =a country) State of North-East India. The word 'Aizwal' means a kind of root plant like ginger. The region was first occupied by the human population in historical period some times in A.D. 14th century. The population is basically lost trails of Isreal origin i.e., mostly from Middle East Asia at a fairly early time through Phonecia, Zextar, Tibbet, Lichan, Kalema, China. The people of this region still retains certain toponyms of Isreal such as -Jerusalem. They have folk lores pertaining to living in Kuknur, Mongol, Chamdo, close to Great China Wall and Daphabum (a place still bears some of the remains of Neolithic people) along with the Singphos @ Jingpaws, another TRibal community of Upper Assam. The medieval rulers of Aizawal (Mizoram) were: Lal, Pavi, Inpui, Chemchen, Tuklut, Upian, Upash, Thanggao, Thirdeng, Khaochiya etc.

  • I am shocked and appalled to read Dr. Sarat Kumar Phukan's comments. First, learn to spell AIZAWL correctly then give a comment about Aizawl or the Mizo people. Secondly, "(Mi + man, jo =hill, Rhowam, Rawam =a country)" is the worst translation i've ever read. There is not even a word like 'Rhowam or Rawam' in MIzo. And for a person with a 'Dr' degree to blatantly assert "The population is basically lost trails of Israel origin.." is really amusing, as there is no Historical or political proof to this statement albeit a few individual writings. So, till such theories are proven and accepted, it is highly outrageous to write these things in a reputable resource as Wikimapia. So please do your studies first and do not give your personal opinions as facts. And for God's sake, learn to spell AIZAWL !
  • OK , now even the Israeli's have accepted the yehudi origins of the people here so we can stop criticising the good doctor. Otherwise the people here are some of the best that one has come across. They are friendly and the place is absolutely heavenly. I wonder why more people from mainland India donot take the trouble to visit the North East, one of the heavenliest places in the subcontinent.
  • Can't complain about spelling. It's the English spoken language that picked words and their pronunciation from various languages and is written in Roman script. There are no rules. May be there are spelling-pronunciation rules, but that will be in billions. Someone started making fun of Hindi language that "Is it true that you guys spell Cat as "See Aey Tee". I replied, "spoken language came first and then came script; if we want to write "Cat", we will write in Devanagari "Cat" and not "See Aey Tee" as is written in Roman script.
  • We r Indian and we will be..."lost tribe of Isreal" hehehe dats really funny :) All Indians r my Brothers and Sisters, I love my country and I'll be true to my country...
  • the govt of israel has accepted us as one of the 'lost tribe of israel' due to scientifically proven facts. Even if you cant believe it, its true, you have to accept it, i've read the necessary document pertaining to this fact. it doesn't mean we have to follow judaism, i am a christian and i believe we are a member of the lost tribe of israel

  • Dear Hriatpuiya Thanks for going through my note. I have gone through your comment on my note on Interpretation of Place names Aizwal/Mizoram. It is really surprising that being an original Mizo scholar you misinterpret my genuine all round accepted note unnecessarily. My note has been accepted by all the renowned scholars of Mizoram without any problem since my work is based on fact and on the basis of field investigation right in Mizoram. Kindly communicate to the scholarly field if you have different pronunciations on the words like Aizwal or Mizoram. Moreover my interpretation is accepted by the majority of Mizo linguists and historians regarding the earlier connection of the community. I still stand on my earlier note on the subject. I would request you please do go through recent Israel history published by Oxford University Press, London, 2011. Please donot personify academic issues. Thank you. With best regards, Sarat Kumar Phukan.
