Tumen Port of Entry
The Tumen Port of Entry includes highway frontier port and railway port, this is an international port, the second largest Chinese land port to DPRK. It is located at Tumen City (129o50’ east longtitude, 42o57’ northern latitude), its opposite the Namyang port of DPRK, 177 km from the Chongjin Sea Port of DPRK.
The history of the Tumen Frontier Port is long, in 1933, the former Chinese government established the Tumen Tariff Port, in the Manchu period, the Tumen Namyang border bridge was constructed. After the establishment of new China, in Feb 1950,
the National General Customs changed the Tumen Tariff Port into the Tumen Customs of the PRC, to handle the exported and imported cargos of the Tumen highway and railway frontier crossings, the Hunchun and Longjing branch customs. In Sep 1950, our country established the border inspection station at the Tumen Port. Before the reform and opening up of our country began, the Tumen port was mainly used by the two countries’ citizen’s visiting relatives, official staff, road transported trade in various commodities. Since 1985, after completion of the new Tumen Highway Port of Entry Inspection Complex, the port’s handling capacity is for cargos 200,000 tons per year, passengers 100,000 persons per year. In 2001, the Tumen port’s handling capacity was for cargos 439,338 tons, for passengers 38,859 persons/times. Passengers from third countries can cross the border here with valid travel documents.
