This is a place with two Defence Factories (which had been founded by the British Government in the English Period for their ammunition requirements). The first one is Metal & Steel Factory (named after its job) and Rifle Factory (because rifles and LMGs are made here) is the second one. These two factories used to be the lifeline of Ichapur. But, those days are gone. These factories have lost their past glory. Earlier, Ichapur was famous for these two factories, but presently these twins have been slammed down.Ichapur is a middle-sized mufassal-town. It is in North 24 Parganas (under Barrackpore Subdivision) within the state West Bengal. Nearabout 3 Lacs people live here. Two markets are here. One is Store Bazar and the other is Line Bazar. People are very peaceful here. They like to live peacefully. Two Post Offices are here, one is Nawabganj (the main) and the other is Ichapur (with a lower profile). The Railway Station is a good meeting point. On Sealdah-Ranaghat Mainline Ichapur is an important station, because this station has signalling cabin with RRI (route-relay interlocking system). The people of Ichapur could have a local train on its name if the Rifle Factory Management did not oppose the proposal from Eastern Railway (it is because the maximum space in Ichapur have been occupied by these two defence factories). In Ichapur, State Bank of India and Allahabad Bank have their own branches. Ichapur Khal has divided this town into two parts. In the field of Education also, Ichapur is not far behind. Five High Schools are here (excluding two Kendriya Vidyalayas). Among them, two are only for Girls. One High Road has gone through the heart of Ichapur (naming Ghoshpara Road). Eighty-five (85) is the no. of the Bus Route here. Some autorikshaws also serve through this route.

  • hello every ichapurian, its a nice place all right...but the main road serving the town..ghoshpara road is too narrow and not well maintained...too much of patch repairing..also it seems corrupt people in the police and municipalities along the way are allowing big lorries...10 wheelers...to pass through this road when those should take the kalyani expressway...this should stop right now....i request people to take up the issue..after all it is your place...also the stretch along the market...store bazaar...is in bad shape and too much unruly crowd....rest best of luck to all nice people...we are handicapped because of the love of the place...but that should not stop us from self criticism...i wish you all the verry best in 2009....
