X marks the spot of where, while floating into P'ohang, you realize you're in Korea.
Let's see....how can I put this politely...., the unforgetable odor of the port hits your nasal passages like a sledge hammer.
I dunno...Maybe it's all the open sewers. From what I'm told, things tend to run down hill and, most likely, it all ends up in this harbor. But, since a half a million people live next to the port and, there have been kimchi snortin' folk here since 1500 B.C., I'm not that supprised.
I'm told it's not that bad, once you're used to it. Drinking copius ammounts of alcohol seems to help. While disembarking, I was greeted by a chihuahua sized rat. That was a pleasent "welcome to the suck" as well.
P.S. I highly recommend a wild taxi ride to anywhere in the city. "White cotton gloves don't make you a better driver." What a rush!
