Faror Island is considered to be one of the richest wildlife regions in the country. A great number of wild birds like eagles, parrots, white-eared bulbul, hoopoe, bee-eaters, laughing dove, and yellow wagtails inhabit the island. The Iranian government established the Faror Protected Area in the island. Visitors can enjoy bird watching in the area.

Faror Island (Persian: فارور، فرور) is an island of Hormozgan Province in Iran. It is located 36 miles from the city of Abu Moussa and 141 miles from Bandar Abbas. The island is currently uninhabited save from a few government officials that reside there. Greater Faror Island is situated in one of the world's earthquake belts. The remains of ruined buildings and water wells on the island testify to the presence of some settlements in the past. The island also contains a vast deposit of iron which is estimated to be at approximately 15,000 tons.
Farur (Forur) is situated 45 km from Bandare Lenge and 66 km from Abu Musa island, in the Persian Gulf.
This island is located between latitudes 26- 19' and 26- 15' N. and longitudes 54- 33' and 54- 29' E and is a part of Abu Musa sub-province (one of six islands in Abu Musa Island Group) and Hormozgán province in Iran.
This island covers an area of 26.2 sq kms. The highest point on the island is 145m above the sea.
This island is poor on precipitation. The average temperature is 18.0 C° (min. 10 C° at winter and max. 47 C° at the high summer). The island is mostly covered with rocks and dark volcanic hills, and its coastline consists of rocky cliffs some 35 feet high. In the light of day, the mariner who would approach Greater Farur would be dazzled by the circular islet shimmering like a crystalline ball bobbing in the waves.
