Quanterness Skerry is a rock situated in the Wide Firth. It is a Class T - Hypsographic skerry. It is made out of Old Red Sandstone formed from thick deposits of eroded Silurian rocks that accumulated in river deltas. A freshwater lake known as Lake Orcadie existed on the edges of these eroding mountains during the formation of these deposits. It is also composed of Devonian Old Red Sandstone. It is 821.08 cubic meters north of the Mainland Orkney Islands. Local information suggests it may have once been a causeway connecting Damsay and the mainland during low tide. Dive surveys in the area of Quanterness Skerry have revealed a rocky seabed with patches of sand, featuring large, isolated blocks of stone and clusters of stone blocks up to 2 meters in size. It is actually a reef according to Google and local research and a 2010 report.
