The William Wrigley Jr. Company moved from West Van Buren and Halsted Street to a new manufacturing complex constructed in 1912 and 1913, including a 250,000 sq. ft. building designed by A.S. Alschuler and a six story 175,000 sq. ft building by architects Postle and Fisher. During the 1960s, the company employed 1,700 workers producing 30,000 cases of gum each day.

By the early 2000s, with production transferred to other plants including suburban Yorkville, Illinois and the development of the Wrigley Innovation Center on Goose Island employment levels were reduced. The company was sold to Mars Inc. in 2008 for $23 billion. Mars closed down the West 35th Street plant and offered the property for sale. In 2020 the plant was demolished
