Iraq / Bagdad / Baghdad / Baghdad City

Buratha Masjid (Mosque), which receives some 4,000 pilgrims daily, is a sacred place in sight of Muslims and Christians as well.
It established in year 654 AD and rebuild in year 1951 AD.
A tradition tells that once Buratha was a Christian shrine where a Christain leader named Hebar used to sit. He converted to Islam and went to Kufa with Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (pbuh). The Christian shrine was turned into mosque when Imam Ali passed by this place in year 37 AH after Nehrwan event, stayed here four days along with his two sons Imam Al-Hasan and Imam Al-Hussein and nearly 1,000 companions. Imam Ali struck his hand on a black rock and water sweetest than honey began gushing out of it which gushes out even to-date.
