Belisle's
12001 Harbor Blvd
Garden Grove, CA 92840

Opened by Harvey Belisle a month before Disneyland in 1955
For 40 years, family-owned Belisle' s stood at the corner of Harbor and Chapman, famed for generous portions of homestyle cooking and 24-hour service. The Garden Grove Redevelopment Agency then seized the property on behalf of a developer. An Outback Steakhouse now stands at the site. Belisle's never found another location.

The big problem with Garden Grove is the city continues to bank it's future on luring a major project to town. The city has a history of proposing unattainable, tax-producing projects, ranging from a Riverwalk to a theme park built on a neighborhood that would have had to be cleared away with eminent domain, to it's latest plan to become an urban gambling mecca. Casinos sure helped Hawaiian Gardens, *cough*, another gem of the southland.

  • Mediocre food (and service and atmosphere) for a mediocre people.
  • I'm assuming you're referring to the mediocre restaurant chains that are surrounding what used to be a great corner to dine at.
  • Yep!
  • Worked my way through college cooking at Belisle's in the 70's. Great food, great owner (treated employees to ski trips to Mammoth) and was painted PINK!
  • Loved the big apple turnovers, cheesecakes, and wonderful pies! I ate at an outback once... once...
