Kohala is the oldest of the five volcanos that make up the Big Island of Hawai'i. It rises to 5,480 feet (1,670 m) in height. The northeastern windward side is heavily eroded, creating the Pololù and Waipi'o valleys. The Southwestern leeward face is more gently sloped with green pastures used for cattle grazing.
