The only hotel in town strictly on the seafront. All the others are on the Promenade or beyond. Opened in 1785 and originally known as Baileys Inn (later Hotel), it was along with Forshaw's (now the Clifton, awaiting redevelopment) at the forefront in accomodating wealthier visitors, and in developing the resorts early tourism.

The hotel belongs to the Britannia Group of hotels.
