Pioneer is a group of companies with three main arms: Pioneer Insurance and Pioneer Intercon, representing non-life insurance, and Pioneer Life, representing life.
With over half a century of experience, Pioneer consistently charts insurance milestones. The Group ended 2006 with gross written premiums of 2.5 billion pesos; and for over 10 years, the non-life company ranked Top 5 in the industry, while the life company broke into the Top 10 in 2001.
As of end 2006, Pioneer had consolidated assets of close to 10 billion pesos; a total surplus including investment reserves of four billion pesos; and a surplus-to-assets ratio of over 40%. The Group has close to quarter of a million policyholders, and in 2006, paid claims worth 748 million pesos.
Pioneer has an extensive network around the Philippines with 34 branches. With an office in Hong Kong, Pioneer Insurance remains the only active Philippine non-life company writing business in China’s Special Administrative Region.
Since the 1990s, the group has formed numerous cooperation partnerships with some of the largest insurance groups worldwide, including Allianz of Germany, Fubon Insurance of Taiwan, Nipponkoa Insurance of Japan, and Samsung Fire & Marine of Korea.
Pioneer’s landmark coverages include the Ali-Frazier bout Thrilla in Manila. It is the exclusive insurer of all national delegations to the Olympics and other international games. Pioneer also covered the Philippine season of Miss Saigon and in 1995 issued a fully-collateralized Php19.5B surety bond for the development of Fort Bonifacio, then the largest in Philippine insurance history. Pioneer continues to support outstanding Filipino talent with exhibition insurance for national artist Bencab in 2006 and Anita Magsaysay Ho in 2007, as well as coverage for Monique Lhuillier’s gala in 2006. Pioneer is firmly committed to becoming a model Filipino enterprise. It continues to expand and build new foundations, with the opening of Pioneer House Cebu as its most recent milestone.
