The town of Ceres was named after the Roman goddess of Fruitfulness - an apt name for a beautiful valley that is fertile and climatically perfect for the cultivation of deciduous fruit and vegetables. The Ceres fruit industry is responsible for about 20% of the apples and 45% of the pears grown in South Africa. The town of Ceres offers an infrastructure for the packing and processing of these crops. Fresh fruit, fruit juice and fruit concentrates from Ceres find their way to export markets around the world.
It follows that Ceres is home to the Ceres Group, a company that markets, packs and further processes fruit. The Ceres Group consists of several independent companies. As part of the Group, Ceres Fruit Processors (CFP) has been producing quality fruit and vegetable concentrates and purees since 1976.

CFP uses advanced technology which enables it to compete effectively in world markets, and continues to invest in the latest technology to maintain best international practices. Quality is of utmost importance and CFP is HACCP accredited and a voluntary member of SGF (Schutzgemeinshaft de Fruchtsaft-industrie). The CFP plant has the capacity to process approximately 120 000 tons of apples and pears per season. Aside from apple and pear concentrate, CFP also produces a variety of other products including carrot and cloudy apple concentrates, purees like apricot, peach, guava, youngberry and strawberry, as well as base concentrate blends.
CFP is constantly developing new product ideas as required by the various markets.
CFP markets its products to leading international brand clients in the fruit juice and beverage industry. These markets include Japan, USA, Canada, Europe and South Africa.
