In 1896, the firm of Eckhart and swan purchased the Hess Elevator located on West Carrol Street and proceeded to construct a new wheat and rye mill. Further expansions followed including a new grain elevator in 1927 and grain silos in 1948.

The name of the company was changed to BA Eckhart Milling in 1909. The plant was acquired by Dixie-Portland Flour Mills in 1964 and was later sold to Archer Daniels Midland in 1990. The mill was sold to developer Sterling Bay in 2018 after ADM relocated operations to a newly constructed plant in Mendota. The six story building was demolished in 2021.
