Vindolanda is the name given to a roman auxiliary fort located just south of Hadrian's Wall, in Northumberland county. It was inhabited from around 85 AD to V-VI century AD. Vindolanda is famous due to Vindolanda tablets, fragments of wooden leaf-tablets with writing in ink found in this archaeological site
