Original two-story building constructed around early 1900's as the Burrow Building, the first half of that building's first floor (this current building space location) used to house physician and surgeon's office W.J. Matthews, M.D./Wm. J. Matthews, M.D./Dr. W.J Matthews ([part of Drs. Matthews & Gillespie offices {also occupied the second half of that building at 240 E Main St. {next door east from here}] c. August 16, 1906 [originally located at the Carlisle Hotel at 353-354 E Main St. {building demolished around September 1970, currently I-26 and interchange/exit for Main and Market Sts.}]-c. late-August 1908 [relocated to 255 E Main St.]), book, office, and stationery store Kemble-Cochran Co. (November 1909-September 1912), tram waiting station/office Johnson City Traction Co./Johnson City Traction Corp. (October 17, 1912-1913 [merged with Tennessee Eastern Electric Co.]), utility company/tram waiting station Tennessee Eastern Electric Co. ([space shared with Johnson City Traction Co., later merged in 1913] November 15, 1912-c. 1918), Watson's Salvage Store/Watson Salvage Store/Watson's All Bargain Store/Watson's (1919 [later expanded into the second half of that building at 240 E Main St. {next door east from here} on November 7, 1924]-late-December 1928 [relocated to the Crouch Building at 112-114 W Market St. and reopened on January 11, 1929]), and department store chain JCPenney/J.C. Penney Co./Penney's ([½ portion] March 27, 1929 [originally located at 319-321 E Main St. {building now part of The Henry On Main apartment}]-December 9, 1944 [building destroyed by fire, store relocated and divided into two groups – Main Store, located at the Avalon Building {building demolished around 1980's, currently a Northeast State Community College building} at 113-115 E Market St. and opened on February 22, 1945; Ready-To-Wear Main Street Store, located 234 W Main St. and opened on March 16, 1945; store office temporarily located at the 2nd floor of the John Sevier Garage as well]).

This current building was rebuilt and restored for nearly a year after the fire (1945-1946), it is a two-story, two-part commercial brick building. Businesses that were housed in this current building space were shoe store Booze Brothers/Booze Bros./Booze Brothers Shoes/Booze Bros. Shoes/Booze Brothers Shoe Store/Booze Bros. Shoe Store/Booze Brothers, Inc./Booze Bros., Inc./Booze Brothers, Inc. Shoes/Booze Bros., Inc. Shoes (November 23, 1946 [originally located at 102 E Main St., became part of Nettie Lee Shop women's clothing store on July 25, 1955 after it was relocated from 204-206 E Main St., occupying two building spaces of this building, shoe store most likely relocated to the basement?]-c. July 1957 [relocated to 236 E Main St. {space shared with JoAnn's Shop} and reopened on August 25, 1957]), women's clothing stores Nettie Lee Shop/Nettie Lee Shops/Nettie Lee Ladies' Shop ([occupied two building spaces of this building; Booze Brothers was still the occupant of this space during that time until around July 1957, that store was most likely relocated to the basement?] July 25, 1955 [originally located at 204-206 E Main St.]-mid-September 1982 [relocated to The Mall at Johnson City at 2011 N Roan St.]), Southern Lady Fashions (c. May 22, 1983-c. February 1990), Fashions on Main (March 14, 1990-May 31, 1991), and children's clothing store H.H. Prep, Ltd. (August 17, 1991-July 23, 1994); the basement of this building space used to house shoe shops Nettie Lee's Shoe Box (August 8, 1957-c. late-July 1960) and Nettie Lee's Shoe Department/Nettie Lee's Shoe Dept./Nettie Lee's Ladies' Shoe Department/Nettie Lee's Ladies' Shoe Dept. (c. early-August 1960-mid-September 1982 [relocated to The Mall at Johnson City at 2011 N Roan St.]). The current space is now a metaphysical supply store and gift shop, relocated from Park Place Plaza at 600 N State of Franklin Rd., Ste. 12 to this location in 1997.
