The Howard County Airport was evidently established at some point between 1954-62, as no airfield was yet depicted at this location on the August 1954 Dallas Sectional Chart (courtesy of Chris Kennedy). The earliest reference to the Howard County Airport which has been located was in the 1962 AOPA Airport Directory. It described Howard County as having two paved runways, and listed the operator as Big Spring Aircraft Inc.
