Crash site of TWA Flight 529, which was at the time the deadliest plane crash in US history when it occurred in September, 1961. The plane entered a stall shortly after take off from Midway Airport due to a missing bolt and could not recover. The plane crashed into the ground in a northerly direction, barely missing a home on 61st Street (near today's Willowood Lane), and scattered debris across a large area of open fields. The area today is mostly undeveloped, with trees covering the area since the 1990s. A memorial to the crash was placed in a park just to the east of the crash site in 2021.
