Bankura Junction Rail Station(SER) (Bankura)

India / Bangla / Bankura
 train station, railway junction

The Bankura Junction railway station is a very old railway station on the Adra Kharagpur (ADA-KGP) line of the South Eastern (SE) Railways. Until about 1975, only low speed trains used to move on this track, as the track was not fit for Express trains. The first express train to run was the New Delhi to Puri Nilachal Express. Now, many express trains run through this station.
The Bankura Junction also had the Bankura Damodar Railways (BDR) on a narrow gauge line. In 2007 the line was converted to a broad guage line and passanger trains go upto Sehra Bazar of Burdwan district. The old narrow gauge BDR engine is exhibited just outside the station entrance (see picture).
