Good Scuba Dive Site. Shaw's cove is a local favorite for beach goers and divers alike. It is a south facing beach making navigation relatively easy. Average max depths are between 35-40ft depending on the tide. Visibility can range from 0' to as much as 30' on a great day (average is between 10-15'). Surf and surge can be a problem to those who have no experience with them and it is best to either dive with a person familiar with the conditions, or with a person comfortable in such conditions. Summer months require strict laws for all divers and snorkelers. All divers must have with them a snorkel (don't need to wear it, but do need to have it) and a buddy (no solo diving allowed when Lifeguards are present). To truly take advantage of the experience, do a night dive, then you will see why it is such a desirable location. Life: All varieties of Fish, crabs (incl sheep and Xavier Swimming crabs), spiny lobster, seals, sea lions, stingrays, thornback rays, bat rays, horn sharks, leopard sharks, swell sharks, black sea bass (usually a juvenile hangs around), etc. Can't promise you'll see any or all of these, but they are there and I have seen each during some dive I have done here.
